RAJOURI: As part of the ongoing 100-day Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan and on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri, Abhishek Sharma, the Motor Vehicles Department, Rajouri, in collaboration with the Health Department, Rajouri, today organised an awareness-cum-medical camp at Baila Bus Stand, Rajouri.

The programme was aimed at creating awareness among drivers, conductors and the general public about the harmful effects of drug abuse and the importance of adopting a healthy and addiction-free lifestyle.

Speaking on the occasion, ARTO, Rajouri, Ashiq Rafiq Malik, highlighted the devastating social, economic and health consequences of substance abuse. He urged the participants, particularly commercial vehicle drivers, to stay away from drugs and contribute towards making society drug-free. He stressed that drug abuse not only affects an individual's health but also poses a serious threat to road safety.

The ARTO further informed that the District Administration, Rajouri, has established a Drug De-Addiction Centre at the Old Hospital, Rajouri, to provide counselling, treatment and rehabilitation facilities to affected individuals. He also stated that a 15-bedded de-addiction ward has been set up at the Government Medical College, Rajouri, to strengthen treatment and recovery services for those battling substance abuse.

Medical officers and health experts from the Health Department also addressed the gathering and sensitised participants about the ill effects of drug addiction, preventive measures and the availability of treatment and rehabilitation facilities in the district.

During the camp, the Health Department team conducted different medical examinations and health screening tests of drivers to assess their health status and promote safe driving practices.

The participants appreciated the initiative and pledged to support the ongoing campaign against drug abuse and spread awareness among their communities. The programme forms part of the district administration's sustained efforts to curb drug abuse and promote a healthier, safer and drug-free society under the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan.
