JAMMU: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jammu & Kashmir General Secretary and former Deputy Mayor of Jammu, Baldev Singh Billawaria, stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan’ (Self-Reliant India Mission) has emerged as the cornerstone of a new revolution in India’s economic, defence, and industrial independence. He said that Atmanirbhar Bharat is not merely a programme to boost production, but a mass movement aimed at positioning India as a global leader. Billawaria was addressing a workshop organised by the BJP Jammu South District, Kunjwani Mandal, which focused on spreading awareness about the objectives of the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan and related government initiatives among the public.

Billawaria highlighted that Prime Minister Modi’s vision is to transform India from an import-driven economy to an export-oriented and leadership-driven nation. He said that achieving self-reliance in the defence sector is one of the most remarkable achievements of the Modi government. “Today, India is not only manufacturing defence equipment and weapons for its own needs but also exporting defence products to several countries,” he noted. Emphasising the government’s reforms, Billawaria said that by integrating private industries, MSMEs, and start-ups into the defence manufacturing ecosystem, the Modi government has truly realised the spirit of ‘Make in India’.

He informed that over 500 defence items have been placed under the import prohibition list, ensuring they are now manufactured domestically. “This has strengthened India’s defence capability while creating new avenues of employment and innovation for the country’s youth and engineers,” he added. Billawaria further underlined that another vital pillar of Atmanirbhar Bharat is the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector, which forms the backbone of India’s industrial framework.

He said that the Modi government has taken several significant steps to empower MSMEs by enhancing access to credit, training, and market opportunities. Initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, Credit Linked Capital Subsidy Scheme, and the CHAMPIONS Portal, he said, have enabled millions of small businesses to become self-reliant and globally competitive.

He reiterated that the five pillars of Atmanirbhar Bharat — Economy, Infrastructure, System, Demography, and Demand — are driving India toward becoming one of the world’s most dynamic and resilient economies in the 21st century. Speaking about regional development, Billawaria said that Jammu & Kashmir, with its rich natural and human resources, holds immense potential under the Atmanirbhar Bharat model. “If the youth of Jammu & Kashmir embrace innovation across local industries, agriculture, tourism, dairy, handicrafts, and the service sector, the region can become a shining example of India’s growth story,” he said.

Billawaria called upon BJP workers to take the Modi government’s welfare and development-oriented initiatives to every household and encourage people to actively participate in this national movement. “Atmanirbhar Bharat is not just a government initiative — it is a shared spirit of nation-building embraced by 1.4 billion Indians,” he concluded. The workshop was presided over by Kunjwani Mandal President Ajay Pratap Singh, while prominent BJP leaders including Rakesh Sangral, Ranjit Singh, Divya Jain, and Rajinder Singh (Poppy) were also present.
