KISHTWAR: Senior Congress leader and former minister Ghulam Mohammad Saroori has expressed deep concern and sorrow over a tragic road accident in Sigdi Balana area of Kishtwar district. The mishap occurred due to a landslide on the Sigdi-Balana road, leaving four people critically injured and eight others, including two children, with minor injuries.
Saroori informed that the accident took place in Mugalmaidan block’s Panchayat Sigdi Balana, where a vehicle slipped off the road following a sudden landslide. “Unfortunately, four people have been seriously injured and eight others, including two children, have sustained injuries,” he said.
He added that the critically injured have been admitted to District Hospital Kishtwar. He has urged the Deputy Commissioner to immediately arrange air evacuation to Jammu for advanced treatment, considering the serious condition of some victims.
Criticizing the government for its negligence, Saroori said, “This road has remained incomplete for years. There are no parapets or breast walls — had these safety measures been in place, this tragedy could have been averted.” He further stated that the widening of the road was never done, and the project remains incomplete even after eight to ten years.
The Congress leader demanded that the government pay special attention to rural and hilly road infrastructure across Chenab Valley, Pir Panjal, and other remote areas, where poor road conditions continue to endanger lives.
A delegation of Congress leaders — Shariq Ahmad Saroori, Bidya Lal Sharma, Shabir Ahmed Lone, Ch. Yusuf, and Ch. Mohammad Haleem — also visited District Hospital Kishtwar, met the injured, and took stock of their treatment facilities.
