GANDERBAL: A one-day capacity building programme (CBP) on Community-Based Disaster Management was today organised in Ganderbal to strengthen disaster preparedness and response at the community level.  The programme witnessed overwhelming participation from frontline employees, PRI members, and local stakeholders.

Deputy Secretary, Disaster Management Department, J&K, delivered an insightful address on disaster risk reduction, importance of community participation, and effective response mechanisms during emergencies.

Speaking on the occasion, Dy. Secretary stressed the importance of capacity building and inter-departmental coordination in mitigating the impacts of disasters. She urged local communities to stay vigilant, well-informed, and prepared to act as the first line of defense in times of crisis.

Experts and representatives from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Fire and Emergency Services, and Health Department also addressed the participants and shared their practical experiences in handling disaster situations. The sessions focused on first response, evacuation procedures, early warning systems, and inter-agency coordination.

As part of the programme, mock drills and live demonstrations were conducted to familiarize participants with real-time response techniques during fire, earthquake, and flood scenarios. These practical exercises provided valuable hands-on experience to the trainees and enhanced their understanding of disaster response protocols.

The day-long event concluded with a collective commitment from all stakeholders to work in close coordination towards building a resilient and disaster-prepared Ganderbal district.
