SRINAGAR: Ab. Rashid Kalas a resident of Nawa Gabra Tehsil Karnah district Kupwara was born on 5th March 1989 to Shri Mangta Kalas. Soon after completing his matriculation he joined the Police department as constable on June 2008.
On 18th February 2019, based on credible inputs about the presence of terrorists in Pinglena area of South Kashmirâs Pulwama district, a cordon and search operation was launched jointly by Police and security forces in the intervening night in the area.
As the search was going on, terrorists fired indiscriminately from the target house on the search party. In the initial burst of fire four army jawans and one civilian sustained critical gunshot injuries. They were evacuated to hospital for medical attention. Consequently, four injured jawans attained martyrdom and the civilian also succumbed to his injuries.
The fire was retaliated by the security forces leading to an encounter. In the ensuing encounter Head Constable Abdul Rashid Kalas sustained gunshot injuries. He was evacuated to hospital for medical attention where he attained martyrdom. Three terrorists were killed which include one local and two foreign terrorists during the encounter.
Martyr Ab. Rashid was known for his bravery. Complimenting his bravery and dedication towards his duty he was awarded out of turn promotion twice in the year 2015 & 2016. The martyr is survived by his wife, two minor daughters.
