JAMMU: Reinforcing its commitment towards environmental sustainability and ecological conservation, the Indian Institute of Management Jammu organized a Mass Plantation Drive at its Campus on World Environment Day, observed globally on 05 June 2026. Prof. B. S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu, actively participated and led the plantation drive, reaffirming the Institute's commitment to environmental sustainability and ecological conservation. By personally planting saplings, he inspired faculty, staff, students, and campus residents to contribute towards building a greener and more sustainable future.
The mass plantation drive saw the presence of Prof. (Dr.) Shakti Gupta, Honorary Distinguished Professor, Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean Faculty and Research; Prof. Nitin Upadhyay, Dean Academics, Prof. (Brigadier) Neeraj Soni (Retd.), Chairperson, Student Affairs Prof. (Dr.) Lt. Gen Sunil Kant (Retd.). Chairperson, MBA Healthcare along with other faculty, officers and staff of the Institute. On the occasion, the Green Warrior Pledge was administered by Prof. Shyam Narayan Lal, Chairperson, Anandam – The Center for Happiness, encouraging participants to actively contribute towards environmental protection and sustainable living practices.
The plantation drive was undertaken with the objective of promoting a sustainable, clean, and green campus environment while fostering environmental awareness and responsibility among all stakeholders. As part of the initiative, a total of 100 saplings were planted across various locations within the campus.The plantation plan included the planting of 30 Mango saplings in front of the Auditorium (Academic Block), 25 Indian Gooseberry (Aonla) saplings and 25 Guava (Amrud) saplings in the Faculty Residence Area. Additionally, 5 Mango saplings, 10 Indian Gooseberry (Aonla) saplings, and 5 Guava (Amrud) saplings were planted in the Staff Residence Area.
The plantation activity witnessed enthusiastic and active participation from faculty members, officers, staff, students, and campus residents, reflecting the collective commitment of the IIM Jammu community towards environmental stewardship and sustainable development. The plantation drive commenced in the morning hours and continued throughout the day across designated locations within the campus.
The initiative not only enhanced the green cover of the institute but also contributed towards improving biodiversity, air quality, and ecological balance within the campus ecosystem.The plantation drive culminated with a renewed pledge by participants to protect and preserve the environment through responsible actions and sustainable practices. Through such initiatives, IIM Jammu continues to demonstrate its commitment to environmental sustainability and aligns itself with national and global efforts aimed at building a greener and more resilient future.
