KUPWARA: In a significant step towards promoting environmental consciousness, the Sub-Divisional Administration Karnah today commemorated World Environment Day by organising an awareness-cum-plantation programme at Tar Behak in collaboration with the Forest Department.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, officials, and members of the local community, reflecting a collective commitment towards protecting the environment and preserving natural resources for future generations.

On the occasion, participants took part in a plantation drive at the Forest Department premises, where various saplings were planted to encourage afforestation and enhance green cover in the region.

Addressing the gathering, Sub Divisional Magistrate Karnah (SDM), Raiyaz Ahmad  highlighted the importance of environmental preservation and stressed the need for adopting sustainable practices in daily life. He urged people, especially the younger generation, to become active stakeholders in safeguarding the ecological balance.

Officials of the Forest Department spoke about the growing importance of forest conservation, climate awareness, and biodiversity protection, while encouraging greater public involvement in environmental initiatives.

A pledge on environmental responsibility was also administered, wherein participants resolved to contribute towards pollution control, conservation of water and forests, and promotion of a clean and green environment.

The programme was attended Dy Conmander 104 inf. Bridge, Tehsildar Karnah, Range Officer  Officer  from civil and police administration, officials of various departments, representatives from the education sector, students, and local residents. The event concluded with a renewed commitment from all stakeholders to work collectively for environmental sustainability and ecological well-being in Karnah.
