DHOK WAZIRAN: In a significant step towards strengthening civic infrastructure and addressing a long-pending public grievance, MLA Nagrota, Ms. Devyani Rana, during her visit to Dhok Waziran Panchayat, announced the construction of a comprehensive Storm Water Drainage and Sewerage Management Project for Indira Colony worth 25 Lakhs. The project is aimed at providing a permanent solution to the persistent drainage and wastewater problems that have affected residents for several years and to further resolve the long standing dispute which hindered the construction of a main road in the area.

The proposed project will directly benefit the inhabitants of Ward No. 2, Indira Colony, particularly residents living in Lanes 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9, who have long demanded the construction of drain to be resolved first before the construction of road.

While addressing the gathering Devyani Rana said that addressing basic civic issues affecting the daily lives of the people remains one of her foremost priorities. She emphasized that once the drain work is completed, work on the road will also be commenced.

"The residents of Dhok Waziran have been facing immense difficulties due to inadequate road. This drain project is being undertaken to provide a permanent and scientific solution to the problem while also resolving the dispute which hindered the construction of road since 2015 thereby improving living conditions, and ensuring that the people receive the quality infrastructure they rightfully deserve.

Recognizing the gravity of the situation and responding to the genuine concerns of the residents, MLA Devyani Rana personally intervened and directed the concerned departments to prepare a detailed proposal for a sustainable and long-term solution. Following technical surveys and field assessments, a dedicated drainage and sewerage project was formulated, and the MLA ensured that the necessary resources were mobilized for its implementation.

This project has been designed to benefit approximately 107 households and includes the construction of a 97-metre RCC precast covered drain, a 10,000–15,000 litre capacity sump well, installation of two 5 HP sewage submersible pumps (one operational and one standby), and laying of approximately 295.65 metres of HDPE pipeline network for efficient wastewater disposal. The project is expected to ensure scientific drainage management, eliminate water stagnation, improve sanitation standards, and cater to future population growth in the area. Once completed, it will clear the way for the construction of road in the area which is a major demand of locals.

The proposed infrastructure incorporates modern engineering features, including self-cleansing flow gradients, automated pumping systems, emergency overflow arrangements, and air-release mechanisms to ensure smooth and uninterrupted functioning. Once completed, the project will significantly improve the management of storm water and wastewater while protecting public assets and road infrastructure from damage.

The announcement was warmly welcomed by local residents, who expressed their gratitude to the MLA for taking concrete steps to resolve an issue that had been stuck in dispute for years. They appreciated her proactive intervention and commitment towards improving civic infrastructure in the Panchayat.

Residents described the project as a landmark initiative that reflects responsive governance and a strong commitment to grassroots development. They expressed confidence that the scheme would not only permanently address the drainage problem but also pave the way for further infrastructural improvements in the area.

The initiative marks yet another important milestone in the ongoing efforts of MLA Devyani Rana to strengthen public infrastructure and accelerate inclusive and sustainable development across the Nagrota Assembly Constituency.
