BANDIPORA: Continuing its efforts to curb the sale and consumption of tobacco and other harmful substances among children, Mission Vatsalya (Child Protection Services) Bandipora conducted a series of inspections in Sumbal, Inderkoot, Naidkhai, and Gulshanpora areas of Bandipora district.
The inspection drive focused on shops and commercial establishments located in the vicinity of educational institutions. Officials closely monitored compliance with child protection laws aimed at safeguarding children from exposure to tobacco products and other prohibited substances.
During the inspections, the officials sensitized shopkeepers, parents, and general public about the ongoing 100-Day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, highlighting the importance of creating a drug-free and child-friendly environment. The awareness campaign emphasized the harmful effects of substance abuse on young people and encouraged community participation in preventing the sale of tobacco products to minors.
Officials also educated stakeholders about the provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 and other relevant child protection laws. The officials explained legal responsibilities relating to the welfare, care, and protection of children and warned against practices that could endanger their well-being.
During the enforcement drive, several violations were detected, and offenders were fined onspot in accordance with the applicable legal provisions. Authorities reiterated that strict action would continue against individuals and establishments found violating child protection norms, particularly those operating near schools and other educational institutions.
Officials urged citizens, educational institutions, and local communities to support the District administration’s efforts in making Bandipora drug-free and ensuring a safe environment for children. They emphasized that sustained awareness, community vigilance, and strict enforcement of laws are essential to achieving the objectives of the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan and strengthening child protection mechanisms across the district.
The authorities urged public to remain vigilant and promptly report any violations related to child protection laws, sale of tobacco products to minors, substance abuse, child labour, child marriage, or any form of exploitation involving children.
In case of any such violation, citizens are encouraged to immediately contact the Child Helpline (1098) or the Emergency Response Support System (112) for timely intervention and necessary action.
