• ADC stresses seamless coordination, mobilisation of resources

ANANTNAG: A meeting to review the preparedness and mitigation strategies of various line departments for the approaching South-West Monsoon Season 2026 was chaired today by the Additional Deputy Commissioner (CEO, DDMA), Vikas Ahlawat today at Dak Bungalow Khanabal.

GM DIC, SDMs, CMO, CAHO, representatives of R&B, PDD, Police, SDRF, FCS&CA, Traffic Police and F&ES along with officials from other line departments attended the meeting. The review aimed at initiating time-bound actions to mitigate risks associated with floods, urban waterlogging, landslides, cloudbursts and other disaster like events.

During the meeting, the chair reviewed the status of the detailed preparedness reports submitted by the respective line departments. Emphasizing a proactive approach, the chair directed the officers to ensure the seamless activation of the Incident Response System (IRS) and to strictly follow the point-wise guidelines issued by the government.

Key directives calling for specific action were issued to the concerned departments and agencies. The engineering wings were directed to expedite the cleaning and de-silting of drains and ensure the availability of portable dewatering pumps at vulnerable locations to prevent urban flooding.

Response agencies, including the SDRF, Fire & Emergency Services, and Police, were instructed to take full stock of disaster management inventory including boats, life jackets, power saws, sandbags and ensure early prepositioning of essential items in high-risk zones.

The health department and GMC Anantnag, were tasked with mapping out emergency medicine storage, securing ground-level wards against flooding, and keeping Rapid Response Teams ready to prevent post-flood communicable disease outbreaks.

 Similarly, the GM DIC was advised to coordinate with industrial estates to secure hazardous materials and implement preventative measures in wake of floods and waterlogging.

 The Information Department was tasked to ensure wide publicity of advisories including Do's and Don'ts issued by administration, control room helpline numbers besides promotion of the national "Sachet" mobile application and alert portals for real-time dissemination of weather updates and IMD nowcasts and awareness on water borne diseases post floods.

Addressing the meeting, the ADC stressed that close inter-departmental coordination and readiness are paramount to ensuring minimal disruption to critical infrastructure and public life during any disaster. He further exhorted the officers to review the departmental preparedness at their own level so the resources are mobilized swiftly and effective response is mounted during such situations.
