SRINAGAR: With the advent of spring in Kashmir the Social Forestry Department has launched a massive plantation drive in the Valley and various degraded forest areas, community waste lands, road side verges and various Government-cum-Private Institutions are being enriched with tree planting. The trees planted are Ornamental, Avenue plants and Conifers. A ceremonial planting was held at Radio Kashmir premises, Srinagar and Women’s College, M.A. Road, Srinagar today.
On this occasion, Divisional Forest Officer, Social Forestry Division Srinagar, Mr. Nazir-Be-Nazir Social Activist and Chairman, National Society for Water Resources Wet Lands and Forests, staff of Social Forestry Range Srinagar, Assistant Engineers Radio Kashmir Srinagar, Assistant Protocol/Liaison Officer Radio Kashmir Srinagar, Principal, Women’s College M.A. Road, Srinagar, staff of the Radio Kashmir Srinagar, teaching, non-teaching staff of Women’s College Srinagar, CRPF personals and other prominent citizens of the area were present.
Speaking on the occasion, the Divisional Forest Officer Social Forestry Division Srinagar appealed general public to come forward and render their services in achievement of noble cause through tree planting. A number of awareness camps are being organized in educational institutions to aware the people in general and students in particular about the importance of tree planting.
