JAMMU: The Department of Horticulture Jammu today conducted a farmers’ awareness camp/ kisan mela at Satwari under the aegis of Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) scheme. Member Legislative Assembly Dr. Narinder Singh Raina was the chief guest, while former BDC Chairman Daleep Kumar presided over the event.
While addressing the gathering of more than 100 farmers including women farmers, MLA Dr. Narinder Singh Raina impressed upon them to associate with the Horticulture department and avail the benefits of different farmer friendly schemes of the department. He appreciated the role of the department in creating awareness among the farming community about the various schemes of the department.
Joint Director Horticulture Jammu Vikas Anand welcomed the guests and briefed them about the progress made in respect of plantation and other works in the area. He said that the camp was organized to generate awareness about the central and UT government schemes of the department, especially HADP with a motive to enhance the farmers’ income. He also stressed the importance of these initiatives in promoting sustainable agricultural practices and enhancing the economic stability of farmers.
Earlier, Chief Horticulture Officer Jammu Rakesh Kotwal deliberated on the upcoming Spring Season Plantation. He briefed the farmers in detail about the various government schemes of the department especially Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) and elaborated on the benefits these schemes offer, particularly to unemployed youth. He said that HADP is designed to provide comprehensive support, enabling farmers to harness modern techniques and resources for better productivity and profitability. HDO Satwari Dheeraj Sharma conducted the proceedings of the programme.
