KISHTWAR: The Department of Health Kishtwar today marked World Tuberculosis Day 2025 with a significant event held in the District Tuberculosis Centre. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rajesh Kumar Shavan was the Chief Guest. In a gesture of support, the DC distributed 12 TB care kits among TB patients.
This year's theme for World TB Day-2025 "Yes - We Can End TB: Commit, Invest, Deliver," offers an opportunity to reflect on ongoing efforts and encourage a stronger commitment at local, national, and international levels to end TB, including combating the growing threat of drug-resistant TB.
During the event, four distinguished speakers from the ANM School Kishtwar shared their valuable insights on the current state of tuberculosis in the region, preventive measures, and the critical need for early detection and treatment. Additionally, the event saw the vaccination of 22 jail prisoners with the adult BCG vaccine, furthering the Health Department's commitment to tackling TB in all sections of society.
As part of ongoing efforts, a comprehensive TB screening initiative is being rolled out across Kishtwar. A total of 70 Panchayats out of 136 total Panchayats in the district have been recommended for TB-Free Panchayat status to the Central TB Division Ministry by the Health Department of Kishtwar.
In a phased approach, the remaining 66 aspirational Panchayats will undergo thorough screening and testing to ensure early detection and treatment of tuberculosis. The event was attended by CMO/DTO Dr. Rajinder Kumar, along with staff from the District Tuberculosis Centre Kishtwar and the Health Department of Kishtwar.
