SRINAGAR: In a significant step towards environmental sustainability, Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar, organized a Mega Plantation Drive in collaboration with the Department of Social Forestry.
Principal/Dean, Prof. (Dr.) Iffat Hassan, inaugurated the drive by planting a coniferous sapling in the college's main garden. She emphasized the importance of environmental stewardship, urging faculty, staff, and students to plant at least one tree each to ensure a greener and healthier future for generations to come.
As part of this initiative, 500 saplings of diverse species were planted across various green spaces within GMC Srinagar. The selection of plant species was carefully made to ensure their adaptability to the local climate and their contribution to a sustainable ecosystem.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from key officials, including Mohammad Ashraf Hakak, Administrator Associated Hospitals, along with Heads of Departments (HODs) from disciplines such as Medicine, Surgery, Ophthalmology, Community Medicine, Radiology, Anatomy, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Dermatology, Pulmonary Medicine, Physiology, Forensic Medicine, and Biochemistry.
Also present were the Academic Registrar, Medical Superintendent (SMHS), Deputy MS (SMHS), AD Planning, Administrative Officer, Estate Officer, and other senior officials of GMC Srinagar. Each attendee actively participated by planting a tree, reinforcing their commitment to the cause.
The plantation drive was held under the theme 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,' symbolizing gratitude towards nature and promoting ecological awareness. This initiative aims to combat climate change, enhance biodiversity, improve air quality, and contribute to a more sustainable environment, aligning with global efforts for ecological restoration.
The event concluded with a pledge by all participants to work towards a greener and healthier GMC Srinagar, reaffirming the institution’s dedication to environmental conservation and sustainable development.
