SHOPIAN: A training program for identified resource persons from the department of education was today held at Mini Secretariat, Shopian for the ongoing IEC Campaign on Drug Abuse in the educational institutions of the district. Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Shopian, Dr. Nasir Ahmed Lone chaired the training session who asked them to act as ambassadors in raising awareness about the dangers of drug abuse among the vulnerable sections of the society, especially the youth.
He emphasized the need to inspire youth towards productive activities so that they remain aloof from the menace of drug consumption. The trainees were sensitised about promoting awareness campaigns, conducting drug-free pledges among students and organising poster-making events on drug abuse prevention across the educational institutions in the district, both government and private sectors.
Distribution of awareness materials including pamphlets and posters and arranging short speeches in schools with lecturers in this regard was also emphasized upon them. This initiative is the extended leg of ongoing IEC Campaign on Drug Abuse, being held in Panchayats of the district and is part of the administrationâs efforts to combat drug addiction, which has become a significant concern in J&K.
