JAMMU: J&K BJP Media Incharge Dr. Pardeep Mahotra has strongly criticized the Omar Abdullah-led National Conference government for its continued neglect of road infrastructure in Jammu, saying that the dilapidated condition of roads has become a major public safety concern and a symbol of administrative failure.

Dr. Pardeep said that roads across Jammu are riddled with potholes, uneven surfaces, and damaged stretches, causing immense inconvenience to commuters and exposing thousands of citizens to daily risks. He stressed that the departments responsible for road maintenance, including the Public Works Department, municipal bodies, and other concerned agencies, have failed to carry out timely repairs despite repeated complaints from the public.

Dr. Pardeep stated that poor road conditions have significantly increased the chances of accidents, particularly for two-wheeler riders who are most vulnerable to skidding and losing control on damaged roads. Pedestrians, including school-going children, women, and senior citizens, are also forced to navigate unsafe roads, putting their safety at constant risk.

“Even the roads leading to the tourist spots of Jammu like Mansar, and other places tell the tragic story of NC government’s apathy”, said Dr. Pardeep, while questioning the simultaneous neglect by the concerned departments, agencies and officials.

Dr. Pardeep further highlighted the environmental impact of the neglected road network. He said that vehicles consume more fuel while negotiating damaged roads due to frequent braking, acceleration, and slow movement, leading to higher emissions and increased air pollution. Dust generated from broken roads further deteriorates air quality and poses health risks to residents, contributing to environmental degradation.

Dr. Pardeep added that bad roads also impose an economic burden on citizens by increasing vehicle maintenance costs and causing traffic congestion, which wastes valuable time and fuel. The poor state of infrastructure adversely affects business activities, transportation efficiency, and the overall image of Jammu as an important urban and pilgrimage destination.

Questioning the government's priorities, Dr. Pardeep said that maintaining roads is one of the most basic responsibilities of any administration. He stressed that timely repairs and regular maintenance not only save public money in the long run but also prevent accidents, reduce pollution, and improve the quality of life for citizens.

Dr. Pardeep asked the Omar Abdullah government to immediately direct all concerned departments to undertake a comprehensive assessment of damaged roads and implement a time-bound repair and maintenance plan. He asserted that the people of Jammu deserve safe and well-maintained roads and that continued negligence on this issue is unacceptable and detrimental to public welfare.
