JAMMU: Making it loud and clear that as compared to other parts of India, women in Jammu and Kashmir are safe and free to live as there is not such a danger and atmosphere here is still safe for them, Gurmeet Kaur further pointed out that in other parts of India women are not treated low.
Istre Akali Dal leader for Jammu and Kashmir and former Sarpanch Gurmeet Kaur, in an interview by Editor-in-Chief of JK Monitor- Ajmer Alam Wani, while divulging on career prospective for women in Jammu and Kashmir, said that women here, have to go far away as in other parts of India there are so many companies which women are leading but J&K is still lagging behind. Women here are struggling hard to establish themselves in various sectors, Gurmeet added.
According to Gurmeet, some of the women in J&K are coming out of their conservative surroundings to some extent, they are getting support yet the goal is still far away and we still need to work a lot in this direction.
Speaking on the issues being faced by the women in Jammu and Kashmir, she feel sad that women face so many difficulties like domestic violence and sexual harassment while education is far-away from their reach and very few women in J&K are getting proper education.
She advised that there should be change in the mindset of people and they should accept that women should be treated equally and given due importance in family as well as, at workplace.
Gurmeet suggested to the women of Jammu and Kashmir that they should consider themselves equal to men as in no way they are lagging behind and should strive to get their places at the national level.
When asked, she said that Istre Akali Dal has played a noticeable role in J&K by helping women, who are facing problems at domestic level or in their professional growth. Though the organization is new in Jammu and Kashmir but its all members are working hard for the upliftment of women in J&K, claims Gurmeet.
Gurmeet is very active in social works and Istre Akali Dal appreciated her work and assigned her a role for Jammu and Kashmir.
Gurmeet belongs to a rural (village) area where she has been trying to make the deprived women aware about the advancement and offer them help wherever and whenever required and is always keen to work for the welfare of society.
During her student life, she was an active student and always participated in programs and activities aimed at welfare of students. Gurmeet felt proud while sharing about getting support from family, relatives and friends and praised her husband for becoming a great support to her.
She believe that with her husbandâs help and support she was and will be able to easily overcome hurdles and problems in her ways ahead.
