- Says Administration alert, no need to panic

SRINAGAR: Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Mr. Sukhnandan Kumar who is camping here since Sunday to monitor the situation arisen after incessant rains today morning at 10 a.m. visited Hydraulic Gate Ram Munshi Bagh and inspected water level at Gauge site. The Minister was informed that water level in the Jehlum has started receding. On the occasion, the Minister was informed that Administration is fully alert and even Army has also been kept in alert to deal with any eventuality. However, he said there is no need of any panic as the weather condition is improving since Sunday night.
He said 60,000 sand bags have been distributed at different spots and 10,000 bags are available in the department to fulfil the requirement wherever need arises. The Minister said joint Control Rooms have been set up in the North, South and Central Kashmir and people should contact administration for any kind of help. He said all arrangements have been put in place to temporarily relocate people who are vulnerable to floods.
Later, the Minister visited various Public Health Engineering Schemes which include Water Supply Lift Station Nishat (Dal Bund), Pumping Station, Water Treatment Plant (WTP) Nishat and WTP Rangil. The Minister was informed that the twin WTP (Rangil and Nishat) have a capacity of treating 3.90 crore gallon water per day which covers almost whole city. The Minister also inspected Water Analysis Laboratory at Rangil and checked the Physio-chemical Water Analysis Report. He was informed that as many as 14 tests are being conducted before it is supplied to public.
The Minister directed concerned officers to ensure proper usage of Kanpac (Poly Aluminium Chloride) and Chlorine Gas and make it a commitment that whatever water is supplied to people is fully treated and filtered. Inspecting the Reservoir of Rangil Water Supply, the Minister was informed that one new Reservoir with a capacity of 20 Gallon Water will be constructed in Srinagar to further upgrade the water supply system in Srinagar. The Minister was accompanied by the Chief Engineer PHE, concerned Superintending Engineers and Executive Engineers.
