UDHAMPUR: An orientation-cum-awareness Programme on Mission Shakti was organized today at Barmeen in Block Ghordi by the Sankalp Hub for Empowerment of Women, Mission Shakti, Department of Social Welfare.
The programme was organized under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Minga Sherpa and the overall supervision of District Social Welfare Officer Kanika Guptawith the objective of sensitizing women and community stakeholders about various Government schemes and services aimed at ensuring the safety, security and empowerment of women.
The programme was chaired by local Block Development Officer and attended by around 140 individuals including Ex-BDC Ghordi, former PRI members, Anganwadi Workers, Helpers, SHG members, students and local women. The resource person from District Hub for Empowerment of Women briefed the participants about Sambal and Samarthya, the two major components of Mission Shakti.
The participants were informed about One Stop Centre, Women Helpline 181, Child Helpline 1098 and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao as Sambal is meant for the safety and security of women. âThe Samarthya, aimed at empowerment of women, includes welfare schemes like Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, Palna (National Creche Scheme), Shakti Sadan and Sakhi Niwas,â they were told.
The resource person from the Department of Social Welfare further informed the gathering social security pension schemes, State Marriage Assistance Scheme, Pre-Matric and Post-Matric Scholarship schemes and other initiatives being implemented for the welfare of vulnerable sections of society.
The participants were also sensitized to the functioning of DHEW, eligibility and procedures for availing benefits under various schemes, legal rights of women, institutional deliveries, education of the girl child, prevention of child marriage and domestic violence. As part of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative, Mission Shakti gave away baby kits to families of newborn babies and water bottles and umbrellas to needy girl students.
