JAMMU: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Raman Suri today said that ranting won’t fetch Jammu Kashmir statehood but complete peace and development where people feel safe, progress and participate in nation building. The manner National Conference (NC) leadership is wasting its time and spending its energy on ranting statehood won’t make it champions of any movement especially when the union government has repeatedly assured people of Jammu Kashmir that the Union Territory (UT) will get state status at a very appropriate time.

Raman Suri said that after decades of turmoil in Jammu Kashmir, security agencies have tightened their noose around terrorists and their sympathisers. The law enforcement agencies of the union government too have identified and nailed terrorist supporters and also weeded out black sheep working in government departments. Entire system of governance has been overhauled due to which the citadel of separatists and their supporters stands demolished. The residual terrorism is also being eliminated and complete peace is dawning on Jammu Kashmir.

The new Jammu Kashmir is witnessing massive participation of youngsters in developmental activities, startups, social media promotions of their products, education, clearing UPSC exams, building their safe businesses and promoting beauty of several locations as part of tourism. This pace, he said, coupled with local government’s development activities will lead to granting of statehood not just ranting the same. The chief minister Omar Abdullah must concentrate on good governance and provide minimum basic facilities if he intends to get statehood.

Doctors are on roads, city streets are in most dilapidated conditions, unemployment is on the rise, housing needs of people are not being met, several localities are not being provided with clean potable water, sportspersons are protesting, interior roads are damaged and illegal constructions are on the rise. In the given situation when no government department under NC rule is functioning up to the mark, Omar must concentrate on streamlining governance and not just render lip service seeking statehood.

Everyone knows that granting statehood lies in the sole purview of the union government and it will be granted at an appropriate time. He said that the tough decision of the union government has brought an end to stone pelting, pushed terrorism to the wall, ended separatism and transformed Jammu Kashmir from an era of street violence and terrorism towards peace towards stability and development. Suri said the changing ground reality of Jammu Kashmir has also drastically reduced cross border terrorism, silenced border skirmishes and vicious cycle of violence decisively weakened. The union government is ensuring that no one dares to revive terror-support networks or recruit vulnerable youth who have chosen peace over violence.

Peace, he added, has become irreversible for which security forces, police, intelligence agencies and the people of Jammu Kashmir deserve appreciation. Amid these developments, the Omar Abdullah government must also concentrate on good governance and not on ranting demands that do not fall under its purview and need more time to realize at an appropriate time.
