POONCH: The Department of Handicrafts and Handloom organized a one-day mega awareness camp at Dak Bunglow Poonch, aimed at promoting the rich art and crafts of the Pir Panjal region. The event was graced by the presence of Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Vikas Kundal, as the chief guest.
Under the supervision of Assistant Director Handicrafts/Handloom Poonch, Joginder Mangol, the camp showcased a variety of traditional crafts, including Crewel embroidery, Chasme Bul-Bul blankets, Lois, Chikri woodcraft, traditional Gojri Topics, pottery, Sozni embroidery, basket weaving, and staple embroidery. Attendees enjoyed live art stations and a vibrant folk fiesta featuring traditional Gojri and Pahari songs, celebrating the cultural heritage of the region.
During the event, the Deputy Commissioner distributed cheques to newly formed cooperative societies, sanction letters to loan recipients, and appreciation letters to eminent artisans and craftsmen from District Poonch, recognizing their contributions to preserving and promoting local handicrafts. This initiative not only highlights the artistic talents of the region but also aims to enhance the livelihoods of local artisans through support and recognition.
