BARAMULLA: In a significant initiative to promote employment opportunities and strengthen industry-academia linkages, the Directorate of Employment, Jammu & Kashmir, through the District Employment & Counselling Centre (Model SBDU), Baramulla, in collaboration with Government Degree College (Boys), Sopore, successfully organised a One-Day Mega Job Fair under Mission YUVA at Government Degree College (Boys), Sopore.

The event was inaugurated by Shabir Ahmad Raina, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Sopore, who attended as the Chief Guest. He was accompanied by Rahil Amin, Assistant Director Employment, Baramulla, Prof. Zahoor Ahmad, In-charge Principal, GDC (Boys), Sopore, faculty members, representatives of participating employers, and officials of the District Employment & Counselling Centre (Model SBDU) and Block Head Department (BHD), Baramulla/Sopore.

The Mega Job Fair witnessed an overwhelming response, with 1,123 job aspirants participating in the recruitment drive. A total of 37 reputed employers from diverse sectors offered 1,035 vacancies, providing candidates with an opportunity to interact directly with recruiters, submit their credentials, and undergo preliminary screening and interviews for various positions.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest appreciated the Directorate of Employment for providing a common platform for employers and job seekers. He underscored the importance of such initiatives in enhancing youth employability and expanding access to private sector employment opportunities.

Speaking on the occasion, the Assistant Director Employment reaffirmed the department's commitment to organising placement drives, career counselling programmes, and employer engagement initiatives to facilitate meaningful employment opportunities for the youth.

During the event, 487 candidates were shortlisted, while 23 candidates secured on-the-spot selections. The Chief Guest also distributed appointment letters to the selected candidates.

The successful conduct of the Mega Job Fair reflects the continued commitment of the Directorate of Employment, Jammu & Kashmir, towards creating sustainable employment avenues, strengthening employer outreach, and empowering youth through market-oriented placement initiatives under Mission YUVA.
