KISHTWAR: The District Administration Kishtwar, in collaboration with the Directorate of Census Operations, J&K, today organised a Quiz-cum-Debate Competition on Census 2027 here at Government Boys Higher Secondary School, with participation of students from different schools of the district. More than 14 schools participated in the debate competition and 6 Higher Secondary Schools participated in the quiz competition.
The objective was to sensitize students to the importance of the Population Census, use of digital means for data collection and the role of Census data in nation-building, development planning and policy formulation. The Principal Census Officer (Deputy Commissioner) Pankaj Kumar Sharma- the Chief Guest interacted with the participating students.
In his address, the DC highlighted the importance of the Census as a crucial exercise for assessing the country’s infrastructure, socio-economic development and educational and economic status. He informed that the first phase of the Census has been completed and the subsequent phases are underway, including preparation of the District Census Directory covering village-level amenities, infrastructure and socio-economic indicators.
The Deputy Commissioner urged students and faculty members to sensitise their parents and communities about the importance of cooperating with Census officials and providing the required information. He also appreciated the students for their enthusiastic participation and commendable performance in the debate and quiz competitions held as part of the awareness programme.
In Quiz Competition the 1st Prize was bagged by SDM Public School, BVM Higher Secondary School secured 2nd Prize, while 3rd Prize went to Government Girls Higher Secondary School.
Government Girls Higher Secondary School and Islamia Faridia Higher Secondary School shared the first prize in debate competition. The 2nd Prize went to Asraria Valley Public High School and 3rd Prize was secured by SDM Higher Secondary School. At the end, the Deputy Commissioner (PCO) presented awards, mementoes and certificates to the winning students and participants in recognition of their performance.
