JAMMU: Expressing his dismay over the complete somersault taken by the BJP over its stand on Art 370, Mr. Harsh Dev Singh JKNPP Chairman and former Minister has accused the saffron party of abandoning its core issues only for the lust of power. He said that the yesterday’s statement on Art 370 made by a Union Minister in the Parliament amply goes to indicate the desperation of the BJP to gain power by hook or crook. Lamenting the duplicity and double standards of BJP, Mr. Singh regretted that the party has compromised its age old political ideology only to become a junior partner in PDP led govt.
Reminding the saffron party of the great sacrifices made by its tall leaders in the past, Mr. Singh said that the BJP was answerable to the people of country for its ideological retreat and a seismic shift from its core agenda. He said that the BJP must remember the great sacrifice made by Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherji, the founder of Jan Sangh the parent organization of BJP, to realize the slogan of “Ek Nishan, Ek Vidhan, Ek Pradhan” conveying thereby that one country can’t have two Constitutions, two Flags and two Heads. He said that even subsequently the BJP had been instrumental in consolidating considerable public opinion in the country as well as the state by its persistent rhetoric over Art 370.
He said that even after the formation of Modi Govt. at the centre, the MoS in PM’s office Dr. Jitender Singh had made a statement that Art 370 had caused more harm than good and had emphatically announced to hold a debate on the Article. He said that even Arun Jaitly had made a statement to drive home his point on Art 370, during Assembly Elections by saying that “ no private investor would invest in a place where he can’t own the land” implying clearly thereby that the curbs on land ownership had got to go.
Accusing the BJP of indulging in politics of deceit and duplicity, Mr. Harsh Dev Singh said that the Party kept the issue of Art 370 alive in all its election campaigns but never made any serious effort to scrap it when in power. He said its persistant slogans of uniform civil code, Ram Mandir, one Flag, One constitution were used only as electoral gimmicks like the ‘Chunavi Jumla’ of ‘Achhe Din’ used by Modi during the recent elections. Castigating the BJP for what he termed as its total surrender, he said that the party was bitten by the power bug with its only motive being to rule rather than to serve.
He said that having surrendered on the issue of Art 370 by giving a written reply in the Parliament besides having given up its stand on Jammu based Chief Minster much earlier, it remained to be seen as to how the BJP responds to the other core issues which it had been terming as non-negotiable. He said that people of Jammu Pradesh were keenly watching the developments particularly the take of BJP on the issues of granting state subject rights to west Pak refugees, voting rights in Assembly to refugees, Delimitation commission, State govt. jobs to west Pak refugees, Defreezing of Assembly seats reserved for PoJK, 33 % reservation for women in legislative Assembly and in Legislative council etc.
