JAMMU: In separate meetings, Mr. Naresh Gupta and Mr. Ravinder Sharma, both of whom are the Members of the State Legislative Council, called on Mr. N.N. Vohra, Governor, here at the Raj Bhavan today. Mr. Gupta apprised the Governor about the need for commissioning of Mother Child Care Hospital at Bhaderwah, Nursing College at Doda, making the already sanctioned ANMT School functional and strengthening of staff of the sub-District Hospital Bhaderwah. He also urged the Governor for grant of full fledged University status to Bhaderwah Campus of Jammu University; construction of a tunnel on Bhaderwah-Bani-Basohli road from Chhatergalla to Sarthal; declaration of erstwhile Doda as Pahari region and consequent extension of reservation quota to it; construction of Thara Pul across the river Halia etc.
Mr. Ravinder Sharma, who was accompanied by Mr. Shabir Khan, former Minister, and Mr. Ashok Sharma, former MLA, apprised the Governor about their demands relating to extension of reservation to Pahari Speaking People in the State; adequate compensation to recent flood and rains affected people of Rajouri and Poonch area; bringing left-out deserving flood affected families within the purview of free ration quota; release of long pending wages to Community Participation and other daily rated workers working in various departments.
They also brought to Governor’s notice the problems being faced by people on account of unscheduled electricity cuts; inflated electricity bills; pending disbursement of Old Age, Widow and Orphan’s pensions etc. They urged the Governor for extending adequate security cover to protected persons and to people living in militancy infested areas of the State. They expressed gratitude to the Governor for initiating various steps towards good governance in the State. The Governor assured the legislators that their demands would be looked into.
