JAMMU: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) patron, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Tuesday, said his party would ensure representation and empowerment to all sections of the society, and would specially focus on the socio-economic needs of the Gujjar and Bakerwal community of Jammu and Kashmir. Interacting with a delegation of Gujjar and Bakerwal community who called on him here today, Mufti said the community is an importantsection of the society which needs a focused and complete development plan to ensure progress and respectable life. Deen Mohammad Cheeta, Salam U Din, Siraj U Din, Ch Kaisar Din, Mukhtiytar Ahmad, Mohammad Faroooq Cheechi, Gulzar Khatana and Noor Mohammad were also present on the occasion.
Mufti said the community has faced a systematic neglect, and its political emancipation, educational and economic advancement forms important constituent of the PDP’s core policy. The delegation told the PDP patron that while there is political representation available to Gujjar community in Jammu province, butsame is not true for the people living in large numbers in the Kashmir Valley, so it would be appropriate to appoint vice-chairman of Gujjar Bakerwal Advisory Board from the Valley
.

The delegation said in spite of getting the ST status there is hardly any change in their lives and the benefits of schemes meant for their social and educational advancement have not percolated down the ordinary members of the community. They said during last assembly polls major section of the community voted for the PDP in the hope of removing the political, social, educational and economic inequalities.
Mufti thanked them for the growing popularity of the PDP among the community, and assured them that the PDP will work to improve their standards of life; educational and health care facilities. He said PDP will ensure that the benefit of every scheme reaches to them so that it gets empowered enough to lead a decent life.
