LEH: A photo exhibition on the theme “one photo for a change” portraits of tourists taken by nuns of Sakya Nunnery Choglamsar aged between 12 to 14 years was inaugurated by Additional Deputy Commissioner Leh R.K Badyal at Tourist Information Center, Leh yesterday evening which will remain open for tourists and general public till 31st October, 2015. The Chief Executive Officer Leh Development Authority, Leh Dr. Zahida Bano, SDM Tangtsey N.D. Sharma, tourists and students were also present on the occasion.
The head of the HappYness Project Paola Marcallo an Italian photographer speaking on the occasion said that due to the rise of tourism in Ladakh the people and the land are increasingly becoming the subject of photography by the tourists. “ To bring tourists on the other side of the lens we invited tourists and travelers to become the subject of photography in Ladakh for a change and took their photographs in the open air studio with the trained hands of locals” she added.
She said that the main objective of this project was to educate the child nuns in photography as a mode of communication and self-expression and to explore the meaning of happiness through the medium of photography and share it with the world. She said that income accumulated from the sale of postcards and calendars during the exhibition will be used for education of nuns.
