- JKAACL organizes painting competition
SRINAGAR: In order to promote the art of painting among the students, the J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages (JKAACL) organized a painting competition on the theme “Paint the nature in any form”, here today. A large number of students from various schools of Valley participated in the event. Minister of State for Culture, Information & Education, Ms. Priya Sethi was special guest on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister appreciated the efforts of the Academy for promoting art, culture and languages in the State saying that the Academy plays a vital role in providing opportunities to the budding artists in exploring their hidden talent in different fields of art and culture. She stressed the need for broadening the base of such activities at the tehsil and block level to encourage artists from the rural areas. She called for frequent competitions involving schools from different areas to attract the younger generation towards the art and culture.
The Minister interacted with students and encouraged them for their interest in the art. She said winning the prizes for their work does not matter but their interest towards the Nature and art itself is an award. She wished them success in life and said that they must adopt it as a hobby and profession in life and carry forward at the broader level to get acknowledged at the national and international level.
Secretary, JKAACL, Dr. Aziz Hajani briefed the Minister about the objective of the event and informed that several schools of the Valley are participating in the event. Different categories have been devised like infants upto 7 years age, junior category from 7 to 11 years, senior category from 11 to 16 years and immature from 16 to 20 years. Cash and consolation prizes will be given to the best performers. The main objective for organizing the competition is to inculcate the interest among the students towards the art and culture.
While taking brief about the activities of the Academy, the Minister directed the Secretary, JKAACL to chalk out a calendar of activities for the entire year after carefully identifying the destinations for holding the cultural and other events for the benefits of the people of different areas. She stressed the need for spreading the activities at the grass-root level to explore the hidden talent of rural artists. She said that Academy must create an atmosphere to provide broader plate-form for the artists of the State from different regions and promoting the local culture and languages which is its main objective.
She said, it is endeavor of the present regime to further promote the local culture and languages to keep the younger generation connected with their roots and ethics, adding that it has been observed that younger generation is distancing from their customs and getting attracted towards western culture. In view of the changing trends “we all have to make efforts to preserve our rich culture, languages and moral ethics which are the real strength of our pluralistic society”, the Minister asserted. All senior officers of the Academy, teachers, artists and large number of students were present on the occasion.
