JAMMU: Jammu Kashmir Sports Taekwondo Association organised Jammu Open Taekwondo Belt Examination Championship 2025 at J.P World School, Channi Jammu. A total of 210 students participated in the event from which 135 students were awarded the belts in their own weight categories.
Two students namely Viraj Singh from Heritage School and Bijoy Nanda from Doon International School qualified the Black Belt from World Taekwondo Federation Korea. Baldev Singh Billawaria, J&K BJP State General Secretary, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Dr. K.C.S. Mehta, Academics Director of IDPS School, attended as the Guest of Honour, while Aparna Kohli, Principal of J.P. World School Jammu, was the Special Guest. They distributed certificates to those who qualified in the Taekwondo Examination Championship.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest Baldev Singh Billawaria congratulated all the participating students and appreciated the efforts of the association for promoting sports culture and nurturing young talent in Jammu & Kashmir. He stated that âsports are not just about physical strength but also about mental discipline, character-building, and leadership.â He encouraged the participants to stay focused, work hard, and aim for excellence at national and international levels. He emphasised that such championships play a crucial role in instilling confidence, discipline, and a competitive spirit among the youth.
He further highlighted that the Modi government is committed to strengthening sports infrastructure and providing better opportunities to sportspersons across the Union Territory. He encouraged the young athletes to continue their hard work and bring laurels to the region and the nation. Anil Nanda, President of J&K Sports Taekwondo Association while addressing the gathering said that the students who qualified would be provided an opportunity to participate in the State Taekwondo Championship 2026 in the month of Feb.
