SHEW Shopian organises awareness programme at AWC Cheermarg

SHOPIAN: Sankalp Hub for Empowerment of Women (SHEW), Mission Shakti Shopian, organised an awareness programme today at Anganwadi Centre (AWC) Cheermarg. The programme was aimed at informing and educating local women about various government welfare schemes and initiatives designed for their social and economic upliftment.

The officials provided detailed information on multiple social security schemes, including Old Age Pension, Widow Sponsorship, PCP and State Marriage Assistance Scheme, helping women understand eligibility and benefits. Participants were also made aware of employment and financial support schemes such as Tejaswini, Mission Youth, and other loan-based initiatives that encourage self-employment and entrepreneurship among young women.

To further promote self-reliance, the programme highlighted several skill development schemes available through various government departments. Women were encouraged to utilise these opportunities to enhance their skills and improve livelihood prospects.

A key component of the session was the sharing of crucial helpline numbers, such as the Women Helpline (181), Child Helpline (1098) and the Drug De-addiction Helpline (14446). These numbers were emphasised to ensure that women can access immediate support in times of need.

In addition, the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative was discussed, focusing on the importance of girls’ education, protection, and empowerment. The participants were sensitised about the need to promote gender equality and create a supportive environment for the growth of girls within the community.

The programme saw enthusiastic participation from local women, who expressed gratitude for the valuable information shared. Sankalp Hub for Empowerment of Women reaffirmed its commitment to conducting similar outreach activities across the district to ensure that every woman is aware of the government schemes, rights and opportunities available to her.
