JAMMU: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) senior leader Raman Suri today paid profound tributes to Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji on his 350th year of martyrdom, recalling his unmatched sacrifice to uphold the ideals of religious freedom and human dignity. He said that Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, revered as Hind Di Chadar, was the ultimate embodiment of peace, compassion, and courage who gave his head but not his principles, choosing martyrdom to protect innocent lives and safeguard Kashmiri Pandits from forceful conversions.

Raman Suri said that the arrival of the grand Nagar Kirtan in Jammu, which commenced from Gurdwara Patshahi Chhevin in Srinagar and travelled nearly 250 kilometres to reach its first major halt, was met with unparalleled devotion. “The people of Jammu had welcomed the Nagar Kirtan with deep reverence, humility, and immense pride,” he said, adding that residents lined up along the route to receive the holy procession, offer prayers, and participate in the divine hymns that filled the atmosphere with spiritual vibrance.

Highlighting the significance of the occasion, Suri said that the Nagar Kirtan organised to commemorate the historic 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji is not merely a religious event but a reminder of India’s timeless values of unity, harmony, and sacrifice. He said the devotion shown by the Sangat in Kulgam, Qazigund, Ramban, Jammu, Pathankot and other areas through langar seva, rumala offerings, and warm receptions reflected the collective respect people hold for the Ninth Guru’s supreme martyrdom.

He appreciated the smooth and robust arrangements made along the route, including traffic management, fire services, ambulances, digital museums, and medical support, which ensured comfort and dignity for the accompanying devotees. He said the efforts of volunteers, district administrations, and Gurdwara management committees demonstrated the shared commitment to honouring Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s message of humanity and brotherhood.

Suri said that Jammu’s wholehearted participation also reaffirmed the region’s rich tradition of communal harmony. “Every devotee, every volunteer, and every family that stepped out to welcome the Nagar Kirtan reflected the deep-rooted respect our people have for Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s teachings. His ideals of peace, sacrifice, and religious freedom continue to inspire generations across Jammu and the entire nation,” he added.

As the holy procession is moving ahead in Punjab and reach holy city of Sri Anandpur Sahib along with other three similar processions from Takht Sri Damdama Sahib (Talwandi Sabo), Faridkot, and Gurdaspur it is a great initiative, he said adding that people’s participation in large numbers established that they uphold the spirit of reverence that defines this historic 350th year of remembrance. He said that Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s martyrdom is not just an event to commemorate but a legacy to live by one that teaches courage in adversity, compassion for all, and steadfastness in defending the truth.
