SRINAGAR: In view of the increasing number of fire incidents in Srinagar particularly with winters about to set-in, the District Administration Srinagar has issued Fire Safety Advisory (Dos & Don’ts) for general public to prevent fire hazards in residential areas as well as commercial places.
The District administration has highlighted that dry weather conditions and widespread use of heating appliances significantly raise the risk of fire accidents during winters. Through the advisory, District Administration Srinagar has urged citizens to follow safety precautions to prevent fire hazards in residential as well as commercial areas.
According to the advisory, people have been asked to ensure that all electrical heating gadgets, bukharis, and LPG stoves are switched off before going to bed or leaving their homes. The use of kangris should be handled with utmost care and kept in safe places during nights to avoid its toppling.
The advisory further stresses maintaining good ventilation while using LPG heaters, keeping escape routes and water access points clear, and avoiding careless disposal of live cigarette butts. Locals have also been advised to avoid storing combustible materials such as dry grass or rejection wood near residential areas, refrain from using faulty or substandard electrical appliances, and to ensure proper wiring and installation of circuit breakers.
The people are also urged to use only good quality electrical appliances, fuses of correct rating, miniature circuit breakers (MCBs), and earth leakage circuit breakers (ELCBs). Similarly, people are advised to stay in the kitchen while cooking and turn off the stove even if they leave the kitchen even for a shorter period of time.
