GANDERBAL: In its continued efforts to ensure a safe and healthy environment for students, J&K Police conducted a special enforcement drive against illegal tobacco sale points operating in the vicinity of educational institutions across the district Ganderbal.

On the directions of SSP Ganderbal Shri Khalil Ahmad Poswal-JKPS, the drive was specifically intensified around the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) Tulmulla and its adjoining areas, where multiple shops and vendors were inspected to check violations related to the sale of cigarettes and other tobacco products, particularly to minors and within prohibited zones.

During the checking, the concerned Executive Magistrate imposed fines on violators found indulging in unauthorized or prohibited sale of tobacco products. Strict instructions were issued to shopkeepers to adhere to the provisions of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) and maintain a tobacco-free environment around schools and colleges.

J&K Police has reiterated that such drives will continue in the coming days to enforce compliance, protect public health, and discourage youth from tobacco usage. The general public is urged to cooperate and report any violations in their respective areas. J&K Police remains committed to safeguarding the well-being of students and maintaining discipline around educational institutions.
