JAMMU: The second day of the Surana & Surana National Trial Advocacy Moot Court Competition (North Rounds) 2025-26, hosted by the Department of Law, University of Jammu, witnessed an eventful and intellectually stimulating series of rounds, highlighting participants’ advocacy skills and legal acumen. The day commenced with the Witness Briefing for Preliminary Round 1 and Judges’ Orientation Session at the Department of Law. The Preliminary Rounds 1 and 2, brought forth keenly contested arguments and persuasive trial presentations by participating teams from across northern India.
The rounds were adjudged by Senior Advocates and Advocates including Mr. Dinesh Chouhan, Ms. Deepali Kapoor, Mr. Rameshwar Singh Jamwal, Mr. Aditya Gupta, Mr. Basit Keng, Mr. Mohinder Singh Charak, Mr. Rohit Bhagat, Ms. Meenakshi Slathia, Mr. Dheeraj Nanda, Ms. Damini Chouhan, Mr. Nitin Parihar, Ms. Neeharika Kapoor, Mr. Hussain Ahmed Sadeequi, Ms. Mehrukh Syedan, Mr. Sachin Dogra, Mr. Sourabh Gupta, Ms. Minoo Sharma, and Mr. Pranav Jain.
After the Felicitation of Judges, the results of the preliminary rounds were announced. In which Out of 18 teams, 8 teams were selected by the Adjudicators for the Quarter-Finals. The session also included the Draw of Lots for the Quarter Finals and Exchange of Memorials. Quarter-Final Rounds were conducted following Witness Briefing and Judges’ Orientation, with teams displaying exceptional courtroom decorum and strategic advocacy. The Quarter-Final rounds were adjudged by Retd District and Session Judges including Mr. Subash Gupta, Mr. Jafar Hussain Baig, Mr. Zubair Ahmed Raza, and Senior Advocate and Advocates Mr. Rameshwar Singh Jamwal, Mr. Ranjit Singh, Mr. Dinesh Chouhan, Ms. Seema Khajooria Shekhar and Pawan Dev singh.
The round concluded with another Felicitation of Judges and the Draw of Lots for the Semi-Finals, along with an Exchange of Memorials. On the basis of the Quarter-Final rounds, 4 teams were selected by adjudicators for the semi-final rounds. The day concluded with the Witness Briefing for the Semi-Final Rounds, setting the stage for the high-stakes Semi-Finals on the following day.
The event witnessed the significant performance of the witnesses and courtroom masters and supervisors, who were performed by the students of the Department of Law and The Law School, as well as scholars of the Department of Law. The seamless coordination of events reflected the efforts of the faculty coordinators, student volunteers, and organising committee under the leadership of the Head and Dean Prof. Manju Jamwal and Teaching Faculty of the Department of Law, University of Jammu.
