JAMMU: Department of Zoology, Central University of Jammu today organized Science Camp on “Biology Beyond Books: Hands-On Experience with Advanced Tools and Techniques in Modern Biology” in collaboration with Indian National Young Academy of Science (INYAS) in Commemoration of 10th Year Celebration of Indian National Science Academy (INSA).
The camp was attended by 12th class students of Govt. Higher Secondary School, Marheen, Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir. On this occasion Dr. Ashok Kumar Yadav remarked that Science Camps provide an excellent opportunity for hands-on experience with scientific concepts and experiments for students. Not only they foster curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking but help the students develop problem-solving skills and analytical thinking. Students get a good opportunity to interact with scientists and experts. Science camps inspire students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
On this occasion Dr. Shweta Yadav, Associate Dean, International Affairs, Central University of Jammu and Member, INYAS (INSA) was also present. Dr. Shweta also shared her thoughts regarding the importance of exposures such as science camps for the young minds. The camp was attended by around 55 students accompanied by their teachers.
The students were exposed to the High-End Labs in the Department of Zoology and also paid a visit to Satish Dhawan Research Centre, Central University Jammu where they observed the launch of Radio Sonde, a weather balloon launched to measure atmospheric parameters which transmits the signals from radio to ground receivers. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Shvetambri Jasrotia, Assistant Professor and Dr. Khushhal Kumar, Guest Faculty. Other faculty members of the Department Dr. Dhananjay Kumar, Dr. Anjali Dhar and Dr. Vinita Sharma were also present who actively interacted with the participants.
