DODA: The Department of Community Medicine, Government Medical College (GMC) Doda, today organized a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on the “One Health Initiative،”۔ The session was held as part of the nationwide month-long activities under the joint banner of IAPSM and ICMR. The programme focused on strengthening awareness about the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health in addressing emerging public health challenges.

The event was conducted under the guidance of the Medical College Principal Prof. (Dr.) Rakesh Baht, and the supervision of Dr. Suresh Kotwal, Head Department of Community Medicine.  Both Medical experts highlighted the growing importance of an integrated One Health approach, stressing its role in preventing zoonotic diseases, improving surveillance systems and promoting coordinated health responses.

The CME included insightful deliberations by Dr. Suresh Kotwal (HOD, Community Medicine), Dr. Aishiya Ishrat (HOD, Microbiology), Dr. Walied K. Balwan (Nodal Officer – One Health Initiative), Dr. Imran Zaffer (Senior Resident), and Dr. Abrar (Demonstrator). Their contributions enriched the academic discourse and shed light on multidisciplinary strategies essential for strengthening the One Health framework.

The programme witnessed active participation from faculty members and undergraduate MBBS students. It concluded with a joint vote of thanks and a felicitation ceremony organised by the Department of Community Medicine, during which all speakers were honoured with mementos. The department reaffirmed its commitment to promoting public health awareness and strengthening collaborative academic platforms in alignment with the national One Health vision.
