SRINAGAR: The two-day Capacity-Building Programme on Labor Reforms organized by the Labour Department commenced on Friday at Gandhi Bhawan, University of Kashmir here. The programme is aimed to improve understanding among the Labour Department Officers and officials regarding Labour Laws and familiarization with the new Labour Codes.
Labour Commissioner J&K, S. Charandeep Singh, welcomed the participants and resource persons, highlighting the importance of such initiatives to enhance the knowledge, skills, and effectiveness of the officers and officials of the Labour Department who are responsible for implementing, monitoring, and enforcing labour laws and policies in Jammu and Kashmir.
He urged the participants to actively participate in all the sessions and engage in the discussions, as this will be an excellent opportunity to enhance their understanding and capabilities so that they become efficient, responsive and labour friendly.
Dr. Onkar Sharma, former Chief Labour Commissioner (Central) and presently Advisor to the premier V. V. Giri National Labour Institute, a distinguished expert in labor laws and reforms led the sessions related to the existing Labour Laws and the new Labour Codes viz. The Code on Wages, Industrial Relations Code, Occupational Safety, Health & Working Conditions Code and the Social Security Code.
Dr. Sanjay Upadhyaya, Senior Fellow at V. V. Giri National Labour Institute addressed the participants on the topic âHuman Rights and Constitutional Perspective on Labourâ. Dr Aneeda Jan Guest Faculty from University of Kashmir addressed on the topic âEffective Delivery of Quasi-Judicial functionsâ.
The program commenced today morning and will continue for two days, focusing on diverse topics, including labor reforms, the implementation of labor codes, and their implications. Interactive sessions have been designed to guide the participants through the nuances of the existing labour laws and the Labour Codes, and best practices that will help implement Labour reforms successfully in Jammu and Kashmir.
Deputy Labour Commissioner, Kashmir Shahid Mehmood; Deputy Labour Commissioner (Central), J&K Ideel Saleem; Assistant Labour Commissioners, Labour Officers, Labour Inspectors and other officers and officials of the Labour Department are participating in the 2-Day Capacity Building Programme.
