JAMMU: BJP spokesperson Rajni Sethi urges the education minister to take necessary steps to improve quality education and ensure transparency and accountability. Educational institutions are the temples of our nation. They are not merely places for academic learning but centres where values, discipline, respect, and national character are shaped. The future of any nation depends on the mindset and moral foundation of its youth, and schools and colleges play a vital role in building that foundation. When these sacred spaces are misused or influenced by divisive ideologies, the future of our society comes under serious threat.
Today, both the nation and Jammu & Kashmir are facing challenges from anti-national and disruptive forces who want to disturb peace, promote tension, and destabilize the environment of harmony and unity. Their target is very clear — our youth. Because they understand that if the mindset of students is manipulated, the emotional structure of the country can be weakened.
In recent days, some disturbing incidents from educational institutions have raised deep concern and shock among the people of Jammu & Kashmir as well as across the nation. The case of NIT Kashmir forcing or pressurizing vegetarian students to consume non-veg meals is completely unacceptable. Food choice is a personal matter and fundamental right. No institution or authority can force an individual to go against their cultural beliefs, religious practices, or personal values. Such actions are disrespectful and go against the principles of dignity guaranteed under the law.
Similarly, another shocking incident has come from Star Public School, Sialsui, Kalakote, Rajouri, where a very small LKG student was allegedly taught Kalma in the classroom. This is not just inappropriate — it is a violation of constitutional guidelines. No school, whether private or government, is allowed to impose any religious teaching or belief upon students. India is a secular nation, and every citizen, irrespective of religion or belief, has the right to freedom of faith. Teaching religious content to minors without consent of parents is not only unethical but also illegal.
These repeated violations cannot be ignored. They reflect a pattern that must be addressed urgently. If timely action is not taken, such incidents may continue, leading to mistrust, division and ideological conflict inside campuses — and ultimately in society.
Therefore, through this message, we strongly and respectfully appeal to the Honourable Education Minister to take strict, swift, and transparent action in both cases. There should be a dedicated enquiry team and strict monitoring mechanism for all educational institutions. Routine inspections, grievance systems for parents, and accountability measures must be implemented immediately.
Educational institutions must remain neutral, disciplined, and value-based. They must promote patriotism, unity, moral education, universal values, and respect for every religion without bias or imposition. We demand that the government issue a clear public statement to assure the citizens of Jammu & Kashmir that such activities will not be tolerated and that corrective measures are already underway. The youth are the future of our nation — and protecting them is our collective responsibility.
