SRINAGAR: JDU Party President G.M. Shaheen has extended profound gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, Hon’ble Union Minister for Rural Development Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan Ji, and Hon’ble Minister of State Shri Ram Nath Thakur Ji for approving the enhancement of MGNREGA person-days to 150 for the Union Territory.
Shaheen said the decision comes at a crucial time, as 1,962 Panchayats across Jammu & Kashmir have been officially declared flood-affected, resulting in widespread damage to livelihoods, rural infrastructure, and economic activity. He noted that the UT administration had placed an urgent plea before the Central Government for special relief, and the latest announcement reflects the Union Government’s firm resolve and administrative commitment to safeguard vulnerable communities.
Terming the move decisive and transformative, Shaheen stated that the increased workdays will strengthen livelihood security, ensure income stability for distressed rural families, and expedite the creation of durable public assets in flood-hit areas. He affirmed that the decision once again highlights the Modi Government’s unwavering commitment to resilience, rural empowerment, and equitable development in Jammu & Kashmir.
