JAMMU: The third and final day of the Surana & Surana Trial Advocacy Moot Court Competition North Rounds 2025–26, organized by the Department of Law, University of Jammu in collaboration with Surana & Surana International Attorneys, Chennai, concluded successfully today with the final round of arguments and the grand valedictory ceremony held at the General Zorawar Singh Auditorium Complex, University of Jammu.

The day began with the Judges’ Orientation Session at the Moot Court Room, Department of Law, followed by the Semi-Final Rounds wherein the top teams presented their arguments before eminent Serving District and Session Judges Mr. Yash Paul Bourney, Mr. Rajiv Gupta, Mr. Khem Raj Sharma, Mr. Haq Nawaz Zargar, Ms. Sonia Gupta and Mr. Ajay Sharma out of four teams, two teams were selected for finals.

The Final Round commenced at the General Zorawar Singh Auditorium and witnessed an intense legal battle between the finalist teams who demonstrated exceptional advocacy skills, courtroom manners, and a deep understanding of trial procedure.  The Final Rounds were adjudged by the illustrious judges of the Department of Law, Hon'ble Mr. Justice Wasim Sadiq Nargal, Hon'ble Mr. Justice Sanjay Parihar and Hon'ble Mr. Justice Mohd Yusuf Wani.

Following the Final Round, a Cultural Event added vibrancy to the occasion where scintillating performances were made by students of Department of Law. The Valedictory Function began with floral felicitation of dignitaries. Prof. (Dr.) Manju Jamwal, Head and Dean, Department of Law, University of Jammu, delivered the Welcome Address, highlighting the Department’s commitment to promoting experiential learning through moot court and trial advocacy exercises.

Mr. Preetam Surana, Partner (Dispute & Head, Academic Initiative), Surana & Surana International Attorneys, Chennai, delivered the Presidential Remarks, commending the Department of Law, University of Jammu for its dedication in nurturing young legal minds and perfect execution of event. The Guests of Honour, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Mohd Yusuf Wani, High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, in his address, his Lordship highlighted the role of Department of Law and Moot Court competitions in shaping the future advocates.

The Guests of Honour, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sanjay Parihar, High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, in his address, his Lordship emphasized the importance of practical training in developing future advocates of integrity and competence. Prof. (Dr.) Neelu Rohmetra, Dean Research Studies, University of Jammu, graced the event as the Special Guest and in her address, appreciated the Department’s efforts in organizing a competition of such scale, reiterating the University’s vision to promote legal education that integrates theory and practice.

The Chief Guest, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Wasim Sadiq Nargal, Judge, High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, in his address, his Lordship, congratulated all participating teams and underscored the significance of mooting in building confidence and ethical professionalism among law students. His Lordship gave the words of wisdom for the students who intent to enter legal profession.

The ceremony concluded with the Results Declaration and Prize Distribution, recognizing the outstanding performances of the winning and runner-up teams, as well as the best advocate and best memorial awardees.

The Vote of Thanks was presented by Prof. Sanjay Gupta, Department of Law, University of Jammu, who expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, judges, faculty members, students, and the organizing partner, Surana & Surana International Attorneys, for their invaluable contributions towards the success of the event. The programme was conducted by Dr Navdeep Kour Sasan, Faculty Co-coordinator of the event and Assistant Professor, Department of Law.
