JAMMU: The department of National Security Studies (NSS), Central University of Jammu (CUJ), under the able guidance of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sanjeev Jain organized an insightful special lecture on the topic “Components of National Security Policy” in the department today. The lecture was delivered by a distinguished veteran and security expert, Lt. Gen (Dr.) J.S. Cheema (PVSM, AVSM, VSM) Retd. It was conducted online and offered a broad platform for students, faculty, and national security enthusiasts to gain in-depth knowledge about the integral aspects of India’s national security framework.
The session was coordinated by Dr. Anuradha Choudhary Assistant Professor, on behalf of the Department of NSS and was graced by other faculty members of the department. At the beginning of the lecture, the Head of the Department, Dr. Neeta Rani, Associate Professor, delivered the welcome address.
During his lecture, Lt. Gen. (Dr.) J.S. Cheemagave a comprehensive overview of India’s national security policy, emphasizing its multi-dimensional components from domestic policy to foreign policy. The lecture explored how national security is not confined solely to military defence but includes areas such as cyber security, internal security, socio-economic stability, and diplomatic relations. Lt. Gen. Cheema elaborated on the crucial role of strategic defence systems and the importance of international strategic alliances in securing national interests.Addressing the students, he stated, “As we are facing emerging challenges in the 21st century, a holistic approach is essential to secure India’s strategic interests”.
The session was followed by an interactive Q&A segment where students raised insightful questions on topics ranging from radicalisation to strategic autonomy and the importance of defence diplomacy. Lt. Gen. Cheema provided thoughtful responses, encouraging students to stay informed and critically engage with national security issues.At the end of the lecture, Dr R. Sudhakar (Associate Professor) delivered a formal vote of thanks.The lecture was attended by faculty, research scholars, and the students of the university.
