JAMMU: The Literary Club and Music Club of the University of Jammu, under the aegis of UTSAAH, jointly organized a musical awareness programme titled “Nasha Mukt Bharat: Sur Aur Alfaz” at Jambhu Lochan Boys Hostel, University of Jammu. The programme was organized as part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and aimed at creating awareness among youth about the importance of a healthy and drug-free society through the mediums of music and literature.
The programme was organised in line with the vision of the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir and Chancellor, Manoj Sinha, who has consistently emphasized a zero-tolerance approach towards drug abuse and has stressed the need for collective efforts to protect the future of young generations. The event also reflected the vision of Prof. Umesh Rai, who has continuously encouraged educational institutions to create socially responsible individuals through meaningful engagement, awareness initiatives, and creative platforms.
The programme brought together music, literature, and social awareness in an engaging manner. Students presented self-written lyrics based on the theme of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, while their performances were set to melodies inspired by timeless musical compositions. Through meaningful words and soulful presentations, participants highlighted the harmful impact of substance abuse and promoted positivity, hope, and responsible choices among youth. The event was graced by Vice Chancellor Prof. Umesh Rai as the Chief Guest.
While addressing the students, Prof. Umesh Rai highlighted that the challenge of substance abuse is no longer confined to a few individuals or families but has emerged as a serious concern affecting society as a whole. He observed that when the youth of a nation lose direction and become involved in harmful habits, it affects not only their personal growth but also the progress and strength of society.
Stressing the larger responsibility of educational institutions in such times, he emphasized the need to create supportive environments through sports, cultural activities, mentorship, and positive engagement so that young minds are guided towards healthy and meaningful pursuits. He also encouraged students to view emotional well-being and counselling as an important part of personal growth and underlined that collective awareness, compassion, and community participation are necessary for building a healthier and stronger society.

Prof. Rai lauded Prof. Sadaf Shah, Coordinator Literary Club and Dr. Neeraj Sharma, Coordinator Music Club for this initiative of both clubs in using creative expressions as a medium for social awareness among young people. Among others present on the occasion included Prof. Prakash C. Anthal, Dean Students Welfare, Prof. Satinder Kumar, Provost Boys Hostels, Dr. A. R. Manhas and Dr. Shallu Sharma, Dy. Chief Proctors, Dr. Satyapriya and Dr. Nitan Sharma, Wardens.
Earlier, Prof. Meena Sharma formally welcomed the dignitaries, participants, and audience and spoke about the importance of such programmes in encouraging students to channel their creativity towards meaningful causes that contribute to social harmony and nation-building.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students from different departments of the University, who engaged the audience through expressive performances marked by thoughtful lyrics and musical talent. The event reflected the shared commitment of the University community towards spreading awareness against substance abuse and promoting a healthy, creative, and culturally vibrant environment on the campus.
The programme was organized under the guidance of Prof. Meena Sharma, Chairperson, UTSAAH, whose encouragement and support played an important role in the successful conduct of the event. The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks presented by Prof. Sadaf Shah, who expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, distinguished guests, faculty members, organizing teams, volunteers, performers, and participants for their contribution in making “Nasha Mukt Bharat: Sur Aur Alfaz” a meaningful and memorable event.
