JAMMU: The School of Languages, Central University of Jammu, in collaboration with Bhartiya Shikshan Mandal, Jammu Kashmir evam Ladakh Prant, successfully conducted a two-week ICSSR-sponsored Capacity Building Programme
titled “Incorporating Bhartiya Knowledge Traditions in Teaching and Research: Perspectives, Challenges and Way Forward." The programme witnessed participation from across the nation, including Delhi, Haryana, Kerala, Jharkhand, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Punjab.
The event began with an enlightening session by Prof. Jaya Bhasin, Senior Professor, Department of Human Resource Management, Central University of Jammu. Prof. Bhasin gave an insightful talk on the need of Bhartiya in social science research projects. Her experienced insights had a profound effect on the minds of the participants.
The valedictory address was delivered by Prof. Sandeep Kulshreshtha, former Director of IITM, Gwalior and a distinguished Professor in the Department of Tourism and Travel Management, Central University of Himachal Pradesh. Prof. Kulshreshtha, renowned for his pioneering contributions to academia and tourism studies, eloquently emphasized the importance of incorporating Bhartiya knowledge traditions into modern education and research. Drawing from his vast experience, he elaborated on how India's ancient wisdom, particularly in fields such as sustainable development and ethical governance, can serve as a guiding framework for addressing contemporary global challenges. His insights into the practical applications of these traditions resonated deeply with the audience.
Prof. Yashwant Singh, Registrar, Central University of Jammu thanked the event organisers for their tireless efforts to materialise a relevant and significant event like this. He called for the extension of this event to local schools and colleges.
The Programme Director, Prof Vandana Sharma, Dean, School of Languages, Central University of Jammu shared her experiences of envisioning such an illustrious event. She thanked the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sanjeev Jain for his continued support and patronage. She thanked the speakers, organisers and the participants.
Dr. Deepak Kumar, Assistant Professor, New Delhi Institute of Management, presented a detailed report on the programme's activities and outcomes, highlighting its focus on integrating Bhartiya knowledge traditions into contemporary pedagogy and research methodologies. Dr. Indu Bala, Assistant Professor, Desh Bhagat University, extended heartfelt thanks to the organizers and participants for their enthusiastic involvement.
The cultural richness of the event was accentuated by a classical music performance by Baibhav Datta, a B.Tech student from the Central University of Jammu. Dalesh Thakur concluded the session with the Kalyan Mantra, ending the event on a spiritual note, while Amisha Negi, University of Delhi gracefully conducted the event.
The programme served as a dynamic platform for academicians, researchers, and practitioners to deliberate on the incorporation of Bhartiya knowledge traditions into teaching and research, addressing both its potential and the challenges involved. This successful initiative underscores the Central University of Jammu's commitment to fostering intellectual growth and promoting the integration of India's rich knowledge heritage into the academic framework.
