GANDERBAL: In commemoration of 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on Friday, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Jatin Kishore flagged-off Pad Yatra (Unity March) from the main campus of Central University Kashmir (CUK) Tullamulla. The celebratory event was organised by District Administration Ganderbal in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and Central University Kashmir.
Students from Central University Kashmir, Public Hr. Sec. School Watlar and other nearby educational institutions marched from the university campus towards the Kheer Bhawani Temple Tullamulla amid slogans promoting national integration and communal harmony, as part of observance of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas.
Students were joined by Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Registrar Central University Kashmir, Additional Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal and other officers from administration and My Bharat Portal, Government of India besides faculty of Central University of Kashmir, and other institutions during the march.
Earlier addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner highlighted the legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and his contributions during the freedom struggle and in uniting the nation post-Independence. The DC also highlighted the role played by Sardar Patel as an architect of modern Indian Civil Services.
He urged that the ideals of unity, integrity and national service laid down by Sardar Patel should be imbibed by all, particularly the youth to strengthen the spirit of national integration. He put forth a message among people to participate in the programmes being organised by the district administration in large numbers in this regard.
A unity pledge was also administered to the gathering on the occasion, reaffirming the participants' commitment to uphold the spirit of unity in the country. Later, the Deputy Commissioner, administered the Unity Pledge to participants at an event organised at the lawns of Mini Secretariat Ganderbal. The event witnessed participation from Additional District Development Commissioner, Manzoor Ahmad; Additional Deputy Commissioner, Chief Planning Officer, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Sub-divisional Magistrate Kangan, besides district officers and officials working in different offices at Mini-Secretariat, symbolising the spirit of harmony and national integration.
