PANJGRAIN, NAGROTA: BJP Rajya Sabha MP and senior leader Gulam Ali Khatana today participated in a door-to-door campaign at Panjgrain in Nagrota Assembly Constituency, where he strongly criticized the National Conference government for acting against the Central Government’s laws and policies aimed at empowering tribal, marginalised, and backward communities.

Khatana said the NC government is attempting to recreate the pre-abrogation atmosphere that once suited its political convenience—an environment marked by the suppression of rights and opportunities for weaker sections of society.  He stated that despite the Forest Rights Act (FRA) 2006, which grants 13 distinct rights to forest dwellers and tribal communities, the NC government is deliberately discouraging its implementation. “Instead of ensuring justice and empowerment, the administration has appointed local forest officers as nodal in-charges—contrary to national norms—resulting in the harassment of tribal families and forest dwellers,” Khatana said.

He further added that the Central laws introduced after the abrogation of Article 370 were meant to bring equality and justice to all sections of Jammu & Kashmir, but the NC government is working to reverse those gains, particularly targeting the Scheduled Tribes, forest dwellers, and marginalised groups.

Khatana said: “This is a dangerous attempt to alienate those who were given long-awaited rights after decades of neglect. The BJP will not allow any government to derail Central laws that protect and uplift the poor, the marginalised, and the tribal communities.” During the campaign, Khatana interacted with local residents, party workers, and community elders who shared their grievances about the harassment being faced by forest dwellers under the current administrative setup.

He assured the people that the BJP stands firmly with every tribal and backward family and will take up the issue both in Parliament and with the concerned Central ministries to ensure the proper implementation of FRA and related welfare acts in Jammu & Kashmir.

The door-to-door campaign witnessed enthusiastic participation of local BJP workers, women karyakartas, and youth volunteers who resolved to expose the anti-tribal attitude of the NC government and strengthen the hands of the Central Government working for inclusive development.

Prominent leaders including BJP ST Morcha National Secretary Mr. Mushtaq Inqlabi, Akhlaq Choudhary from the Auqaf Administration Rajouri, Rayeaz Khatana, Booth President Subhash, Latif Choudhary were present.
