ANANTNAG & HANDWARA: Continuing the sustained crackdown against narcotics cultivation and trafficking under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, Jammu and Kashmir Police achieved significant success in separate operations conducted in Anantnag and Handwara, resulting in the destruction of illegal poppy cultivation and registration of cases under the NDPS Act.
In Anantnag, acting on specific information developed by the concerned Beat Officer of Police Station Dooru regarding illegal cultivation of poppy on a patch of land at Tumripora Dooru, a police team from Police Station Dooru, accompanied by the Executive Magistrate and officials from the Agriculture Department, conducted a joint operation at the identified location. During the operation, the illegal poppy cultivation was detected and destroyed on the spot after completion of all legal formalities.
In this connection, Case FIR No. 70/2026 under relevant provisions of law has been registered at Police Station Dooru and further investigation has been initiated. Meanwhile, in Handwara, Police detected and destroyed illegal poppy cultivation in village Baderkal Zachaldara during a coordinated operation conducted by Police Post Zachaldara under the jurisdiction of Police Station Handwara, along with Revenue and Excise officials.
During the operation, illegally cultivated poppy crop was identified and destroyed on the spot in accordance with legal procedures. Police Station Handwara registered Case FIR No. 103/2026 against accused Gh Hassan Wani son of Mohd Sadiq Wani resident of Baderkal Zachaldara, for involvement in illegal cultivation of poppy straw.
These operations reflect the unwavering commitment of J&K Police towards eradicating the drug menace, dismantling networks involved in narcotics cultivation and trafficking, and safeguarding society particularly the youth from the harmful impact of drugs. Police have once again urged the general public to cooperate and share information related to drug cultivation, peddling, or substance abuse to help build a safer, healthier, and drug-free society.
