JAMMU: The Department of Law, University of Jammu organized a Legal Awareness and Literacy Camp for LL.B. 6th Semester students at Mansar with the objective of spreading awareness among students regarding drug abuse, the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and the social consequences arising from substance abuse.

During the visit, the students interacted with the students of Government Higher Secondary School (10+2), Mansar and conducted awareness sessions on various aspects related to drug abuse, preventive measures, and the wider social implications of addiction.

The programme was organized under the guidance of Prof. Manju Jamwal, Head and Dean, Faculty of Law, Department of Law, University of Jammu. The faculty members accompanying the students included Prof. Satinder Kumar, Dr. Mohd Arif, and Dr. Raj Sandhu.

The event was organized with the support of the BDO Office, Majalta, Block Mansar. The cooperation extended by the Principal of the school, Ms. Abha Verma, played an instrumental role in the successful conduct of the programme.

During the camp, the law students actively interacted with the school students and delivered informative talks on drug abuse, the NDPS Act, preventive measures, and the social impact of addiction. The student speakers included Avinash Choudhary, Maskeen Kour, Ananya Shukla, Pratham, Chaitanya, Rishab, and Rhythm, who sensitized the participants about the growing menace of drugs and emphasized the importance of community participation in combating the issue.

Tilak Raj, Ex-Sarpanch, Mansar, also interacted with the students and shared his views on the increasing problem of drug abuse. He emphasized the collective responsibility of society in protecting the younger generation from addiction and related social evils. Arshi Sharma administered an anti-drug awareness oath to the students, while the proceedings of the programme were conducted by Ms. Anchal Gupta.

The office staff members accompanying the programme included Pankaj Sharma, Sharat Sharma, Arslan Rashid, Anisha Sharma, Balbir Singh, and Anurag. Special contribution was made by Sunny Singh, LL.M. Scholar, who assisted in the smooth and efficient conduct of the programme. The camp witnessed enthusiastic participation from the students and staff of the school and served as an important initiative towards promoting legal literacy and social awareness among the youth.
