SRINAGAR: The Jammu & Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) on Wednesday has welcomed the announcement of a two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran, expressing hope that it will pave the way for lasting peace and stability in West Asia. In a statement, the National Convenor of the Association, Nasir Khuehami said that, “The ceasefire between Iran and the United States is a welcome and timely step toward de-escalation.

It reflects the urgent need for restraint and reinforces that dialogue must take precedence over confrontation in resolving conflicts. He described the ceasefire as a vital humanitarian pause that will help protect civilian lives and ease the suffering of ordinary people caught in the crossfire. “ There is no alternative to dialogue and diplomacy in addressing complex geopolitical conflicts.

This ceasefire offers a crucial window for constructive engagement, and we hope both sides use this opportunity to build trust and move toward a more durable and institutionalized peace framework,” he added.Khuehami emphasized that the de-escalation is not only important for regional peace in West Asia but also has far-reaching implications for global stability, international trade, and economic security.

“Any prolonged conflict in the region risks disrupting critical trade routes, energy supplies, and global markets. A peaceful resolution is therefore in the collective interest of the international community,” he said. Highlighting the concerns of students, he noted that many Indian students studying in Iran have faced uncertainty due to rising tensions. “We hope the ceasefire holds and is followed by meaningful dialogue so that Indian students in Iran can continue their education without fear or disruption.

Their safety, academic continuity, and well-being must remain a priority.”He further added that, “Students are often the silent victims of geopolitical tensions. Conflict disrupts education, creates psychological stress, and limits opportunities. A stable and peaceful environment is essential for young people to learn, grow, and contribute meaningfully to society.

”The Association expressed hope that the current truce will evolve into a long-term peace process, fostering stability, cooperation, and people-centric policies across the region. “Peace must not remain a temporary arrangement or symbolic gesture. It must translate into sustained efforts, reduced hostilities, and a genuine commitment to dialogue. Only then can the region move toward lasting peace and prosperity,” he added.
