BARAMULLA AND SHOPIAN: In a major crackdown against illegal mining activities, Police in Baramulla and Shopian, in coordination with the Department of Geology and Mining, intensified enforcement operations across various areas, resulting in the seizure of multiple vehicles involved in unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals.
In Baramulla, during area domination at Dargam, police seized a tipper bearing registration number JK05D-6029 driven by Asif Mohammad Dar son of Gh Mohammad Dar resident of Khajabagh and a tractor bearing registration number JK05H-3951 driven by Irfan Ahmad Malik son of Ab Rehman Malik resident of Hurcheck for illegal extraction of minerals. Legal action under relevant provisions of the MMDR Act was initiated.
In a separate action at Mirgund, two tippers bearing registration numbers JK05D-7194 and JK03E-7406 carrying illegally extracted stone material were seized and action under the MMDR Act was taken. Further, in a joint operation conducted by Police Post Kongamdara and the Department of Geology and Mining at Nowlari Kongamdara, a tipper bearing registration number JK01F-8823 driven by Waseem Ahmad Reshi son of Ab Ahad Reshi resident of Pariswani Kunzer was found transporting illegal mining material. The vehicle was seized by the Geology and Mining Department for further legal proceedings.
Meanwhile, during naka checking at Delina, a tipper loaded with illegally transported sand was intercepted and officials from the Mining Department were informed for necessary legal action. In a significant action in Shopian, Police seized three tractors involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals from Rambiara Nallah near Heerpora during routine patrolling. Acting promptly, Police Station Heerpora registered FIR No. 35/2026 under relevant sections of law and initiated investigation into the matter.
J&K Police reiterated their firm commitment towards curbing illegal mining activities, emphasizing that such unlawful acts not only cause severe environmental degradation but also lead to exploitation of natural resources. The public has also been urged to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by reporting illegal mining activities.
