BARAMULLA & PULWAMA: Continuing its sustained crackdown on illegal mining activities, J&K Police seized 04 vehicles loaded with illegally extracted minerals in Baramulla & Pulwama.
Police Station Kreeri seized two tippers loaded with illegally extracted sand at Nawan Mode during routine patrolling within its jurisdiction. The vehicles were found involved in unauthorized extraction and transportation of sand in violation of the provisions of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act. Acting promptly, Police teams intercepted and seized both the vehicles and initiated legal action against the violators under the MMDR Act.
Pulwama Police seized two vehicles involved in the unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals in separate operations conducted by Police Post Newa. In the first operation, during naka checking laid at Newa, one tipper bearing registration No. JK13A-5547 loaded with illegally extracted sand was intercepted. During verification, the driver failed to produce any valid permission or documents related to the extraction and transportation of the sand.
Accordingly, the vehicle along with the illegally mined material was seized on spot. In this regard, FIR No. 77/2026 under sections 303(ii) BNS and 3 PPD Act stands registered at PS Pulwama and investigation has been taken up. In another operation, the police party intercepted one dumper bearing registration No. JK13K-1044 which was found loaded with illegally extracted clay. The vehicle was seized on spot and a case FIR No. 80/2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered at PS Pulwama. Further investigation is underway.
Police remains steadfast in its commitment to curb illegal mining and safeguard natural resources from unlawful exploitation. Such drives shall continue across the district to ensure strict enforcement of law and protection of the environment.
